STOP the genocidal assault on Gaza

Israel is carrying out a genocidal campaign against Palestinians in Gaza with Western complicity.Since October 7, relentless Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, some of them targeting hospitals, schools, universities, mosques and churches, have killed more than 20,00 Palestinians - more than half of them children and women - destroyed entire neighbourhoods, and displaced 1.9 million people. Israel ordered more than one million people, nearly half of the population of the besieged enclave, to leave northern Gaza. For many, this is a second or third displacement, since the majority of Gaza's residents are refugees whose families were forced to leave their homes during the Nakba, the catastrophe of 1948, and have been prevented from returning by Israel. Concentrated in refugee camps, Palestinians in Gaza have been under a brutal air, sea and land siege imposed since 2007.This siege is now complete. Israel has cut off food, water, fuel, electricity and communications, making it impossible to provide basic life services and disrupting access to fundamental human needs. What we are seeing is a dispossessed people being bombed, starved and uprooted again by one of the world's strongest military powers.Israel has promised to “take mighty vengeance” for the Hamas attack that killed about 1,400 Israelis on October 7 and announced its intention to crush Gaza to punish "human animals." Mainstream media and Western leaders are reproducing Israel’s genocidal rhetoric, dehumanising language and racist tropes about Palestinians to legitimize the attack on Gaza. The loss of Israeli lives is a terrible tragedy, and the targeting of civilians is horrifying. But the attack on October 7 must be seen in context.Palestinians have lived 75 years of ethnic cleansing, 56 years of military occupation, and in Gaza, 17 years of a brutal siege. The main root of violence in the region is the decades-long oppression of Palestinians. As a people who have been under occupation, oppression and dispossession for decades, Palestinians need our full solidarity and support. Israel's genocidal war on Gaza must end, and Israeli settler colonialism must be dismantled.
